FinalDemand Finaldemandgoods:Theindexforfinaldemandgoodsmovedup1.2percentinOctoberfollowing a1.3-percentincreaseinSeptember.InOctober,three-quartersoftheadvancecanbeattributedtoa 4.8-percentjumpinpricesforfinaldemandenergy.Theindexforfinaldemandgoodslessfoodsand energymovedup0.5percent.Conversely,pricesforfinaldemandfoodsdecreased0.1percent. Productdetail:Nearly30percentoftheOctoberincreaseintheindexforprocessedgoodsfor intermediatedemandcanbeattributedtoa14.2-percentriseinpricesfordieselfuel.Theindexesfor utilitynaturalgas,coldrolledsteelsheetandstrip,gasoline,jetfuel,andhotrolledsteelsheetand stripalsomovedhigher.Incontrast,pricesforbeefandvealfell10.3percent.Theindexesfor primarybasicorganicchemicalsandforcommercialelectricpoweralsodecreased.(Seetable5.)
