ThroughtheprocessofdevelopingthenewDNVGLrulesover7,000pageswerereviewed,bothinternallyandexternally.Inall,morethan2,000detailedcommentsbyyards,manufacturers,owners,academics,flagstatesandothermaritimestakeholdersweresubmitted.Thisextensiveconsultationprocessresultedinmorethan700rulemodifications–adjustmentstriggereddirectlybytheindustry’sexpertise. OneofthemostsignificantadvancesinthenewrulesistheintroductionofEquivalentDesignWaves(EDW)tocalculateenvironmentalloads.EDWenablesamoreaccuraterepresentationoftheseloadsandconsequentlyamoreprecisestressdescriptionofavessel’sstructure. “ThereworkingoftheruleshasallowedDNVGLtoincorporateandintegratemoremoderntoolsandsoftware,makingthemresponsivetofuturedevelopments.Therulesalsosupporttheapplicationofthelatesttechnologiesincludingbatteryinstallationsandhybridpropulsionconcepts,gas-fuelledreadinessandLNGbunkeringvesselsthroughadditionalclassnotations,”DNVGLsaid.
