Theeffectoftheairline’sentryoccurredinthreestages.Firstly,theyincreasedsupplyandofferedlowerpricesonthatroute.Thiswouldleadtheincumbentairlinestolowertheirfaresinordertocompete.Asaresult,thethirdelementoftheSouthwestEffectwouldbethatsalesforallairlineswouldrise.Thelowerpriceswouldleadtoanincreaseddemandforairtravel,meaningthateventhoseairlineswhohadtolowerfareswouldseeariseinprofitsasaresultofbetterloadfactors.
