Mechanicalproperties[edit] Mechanicalproperties,imperial[edit] Thesetypesofboltsaredesignedtobetightenedtoneartheirproofstrength,inordertocreatesignificantbolttension.Thestandardstatesthattheboltsmustbetightenedtoatleast70%ofthetensileyieldstrength.Theseboltsusethesamematerialastheircommoncousins(ASTMF568Mformetricbolts),buthaveathickerandwiderheadtomoreeffectivelydistributetheload.Thismodifiedgeometryisoftenreferredtoasheavyhexgeometry.[8]NutsmustmeetASTMA563,whichalsousesheavyhexgeometry.[9]DimensionsofheavyhexgeometryareperdocumentANSI/ASMEB18.2.6,whichuses"coarse"threadsasdefinedbyUnifiedThreadStandard.
