Additionally,thelongitudinaldatacanserveasatransparentqualityassurancemeasureforprogramreviewsbyprovidinganevaluationoftheextenttowhichaschoolismeetingitscurriculumobjectives.[1][10][25]Thetestalsoprovidesmorereliabledataforhigh-stakesassessmentdecisionsbyusingmeasuresofcontinuouslearningratherthanaone-shotmethod(Schuwirth,2007).Inter-universityprogresstestingcollaborationsprovideameansofimprovingthecost-effectivenessofassessmentsbysharingalargerpoolofitems,itemwriters,reviewers,andadministrators.ThecollaborativeapproachadoptedbytheDutchandotherconsortiahasenabledtheprogresstesttobecomeabenchmarkinginstrumentbywhichtomeasurethequalityofeducationaloutcomesinknowledge.Thesuccessoftheprogresstestinthesewayshasledtoconsiderationofdevelopinganinternationalprogresstest.[25][26] Thebenefitsforallmainstakeholdersinamedicalorhealthsciencesprogrammemaketheprogresstestanappealingtooltoinvestresourcesandtimeforinclusioninanassessmentregime.Thisattractivenessisdemonstratedbyitsincreasinglywidespreaduseinindividualmedicaleducationinstitutionsandinter-facultyconsortiaaroundtheworld,andbyitsusefornationalandinternationalbenchmarkingpractices.
