...HewantedtotryandinstillthatinthewayweshotTheFavourite,butitwasgoingtobereallydifficulttodothat.Becauseofthecostumesandjustthephysicalityofit,itwasnotgoingtobepossible.Sowetriedtocomeupwithwaysofbeingasfluidaswecouldwiththecamera.Thatwasexcitingbecausewecameupwithsomeinterestingrigs—weexploreddifferentgimbalrigsandthingslikethat.[36] LanthimosencouragedRyantousefisheyeandwide-anglelensesforamajorityoftheshots,whichRyanbelievedcontributedsignificantlytothestory:Thewidelensistwofold.Byshowingyouthewholeroomandalsoisolatingthecharacterinasmallspace ...yougetafeelingofnoescape.Ithinkoneofthecritiquesofthefilmbelieveditwaslikeaplaygroundthatturnsintoabattlegroundthatturnsintoaprison.Ithinkthat'saverygoodexplanationofwhatthefilmtriestogetacrosswiththesecharacters.Ithinkthewidelensesareprettyintegraltothat,aswell.[36] ProductiondesignerFionaCrombiedrewinspirationforthefilm'scolourpalettefromthechequered,black-and-whitemarblefloorintheGreatHallatHatfieldHouse,notingthat"acharacterwillwalkintoaroomandyougetthisincrediblewide-shot—we'retalkingseeingfromthefloorstotheceilingstothecorners.Youseeeverything."[37]Severalroomsatthehousewerealtered,particularlyfortheQueen'sroom,whichincludedremovingpaintings,furnitureandotherdecorations,to"putourownlanguageintoit".Thefilmmakersusedmostlynaturallighting,whichprovedchallengingforthecandle-litnighttimescenes;Crombiesaid,"asyouimagine,thereareverystrictprotocolsaboutmanagingcandles
