NissanCaball FromWikipedia,thefreeencyclopedia Jumptonavigation Jumptosearch TheNissanCaballisalightcommercialtruckmanufacturedbyNissanMotorsfromDecember1957untilDecember1981.TheCaballwasmainlysoldinJapan,HongKong,SouthEastAsiancountries,Australia,NewZealand,andfewEuropeancountriesandsharedtheNissanJuniorplatform.WhiletheCaballnamecametoanendin1981withthecancellationoftheJunior,itslargerreplacementreceivedtheNissanAtlasnameinthedomesticJapanesemarket(Cabstarintheexport).Theseare2-4tontrucks,thelighterversionsintheAtlastruckrangetookoverafterthelesserCabstar/Homer.[1]InJapan,itwasavailableatNissanStorelocationsandreplacedbytheNissanAtlas. Firstgeneration(C40)[edit] FirstappearinginDecember1957,theNissanJuniorCaballbeganasacab-overversionoftheB40-seriesNissanJunior.[1]LiketheJunior,theJuniorCaballusedthe1.5 L(1,489 cc)"1H"four-cylinderengine,developing50 PS(37 kW)at4,400 rpm.InAugust1958theC42versionwasreleased(theC41designationwasskipped),withpowerupto57 PS(42 kW).[2]TheC43wasreleasedin1959withanewgrilledesignthatwaslargerandfilledthespacebetweentheheadlights.ThecabinairintakeusedontheC40andC42wasgone,withcabinairdirectedthroughthegrilleitself.Alsogonewastheinteriorfloorhump,theC43nowfeaturedaflatcabinfloorinfrontoftheseat.ThecaboverapproachwasusedbecauseofJapaneseGovernmentdimensionregulations,whichdictatehowlongavehiclecanbeandhowwidesoastostaywithinfavorableannualroadtaxobligations. Secondgeneration(C140)[edit] TheC140wasintroducedinApril1960andcontinuedinproductionuntilreplacedbytheC240seriessixyearslater.[1]WhilealmostidenticalinappearancetotheC40,itfeaturedanall-new1.5-litreG-seriesenginealsoseenintheCedric.Powerwasupto71 PS(52 kW)at5,000 rpm.TherewasalsoabusversioncalledtheEcho(GC140),whichwasintroducedamonthbeforetheCaball.[3]ThiswasthefirstCaballtoseeexportmarketsoutsideofAsia,reachingacertainlevelofsuccessinAustralianandCentralAmericanmarkets.TherewerealsoVC140(van)andKC140(microbus)versionsavailable.[4] In1962theC141Caballwasintroduced,whichiswhenthe"Junior"partofthenamewasdroppedandthetrucksimplybecamethe"NissanCaball".LiketheC40andC140,theC141isbasedontheJunior40pickup.Whilethe1.5-litre"G"engineremainedavailable,themainenginewasnowthe1,883 ccHengine,offering85 PS(63 kW).In1963theCaballunderwentamajorchange,withthefrontsheetmetalreplacedandwithamorebulging,"droopy-eyed"appearance.[5]TherewasalsoaQC141versionavailable,featuringa2,164 ccSD22dieselengineproducing70 PS(51 kW).NowbasedontheJunior41pickup,theC142wasreleasedinlate1965withfewchangesfromtheC141,withthe"1900"badgereplacedwitha"2000"badge.Thegrilleandmirrorswerealsodifferent.TheGandHengineswerereplacedbythe1,982 ccH20engine,with99 hp(74 kW).ThiswasthelastNissanvehiclewherethedoorswerehingedattherear.[6] Thirdgeneration(C240)[edit] NissanCaballC240(SouthAfrica) ThethirdgenerationCaballfirstappearedinAugust1966.[1]Theexteriorwasredesignedwithamoremodernlookwithquadheadlights,andforthefirsttime,front-hingeddoors.TheinteriorwasdesignedforAmericansinmind,andcouldcomfortablyseatthreeeventhoughitwasn'tsoldinNorthAmerica.TheC240usedthesameenginesastheC142.In1969,thegrillewaschanged.Thebadgeonthefrontfeaturedawing-shapewithahugeletter"N"inthemiddleand"Caball"insmallerwritingbelowtheN(thisbadgeissimilartotheoneusedontheC80).Onthepassengersidejustabovetheheadlightwasa"G4"badge(gasmodel)ora"D4"badge(dieselmodel).The"Echo"busversion(GC240)wasalsoavailable.[3] Fourthgeneration(C340)[edit] 1981NissanCaball(C340)truck(Australia) ThefourthandlastgenerationCaballwasintroducedinMay1976andwasdiscontinuedwithoutadirectsuccessorinlate1981.[7]ThisgenerationwasalsomarketedastheNissanClipper,anameplateacquiredwithNissan'stakeoverofthePrinceMotorCompany.[1]TheClipperwassoldthroughPrincestores,whiletheCaballwassoldthroughtheNissanMotorsalesnetwork.Between1979and1981NissanDiesel(UD)alsohadaversioncalledtheBison,soldthroughtheirstores.TheC340usedthecabandchassisoftheprecedingC240,butreceivedadifferentfronttreatmentandwassomewhatlonger.ThismodelwasalsoassembledinSouthAfrica.Engineswerethetrustytwo-literH20andthethree-literED30diesel.Poweroutputsare72and63 kW(98and86 PS;97and84 hp)respectively.[8]InJune1980thelargerED33dieselarrived,withglowplugsforincreasedeaseofoperationsandafterglowtohelplowerpollution.
