YamahaYZR-M1MotoGPbike(2006) Fromthemid-1970sthroughto2001,thetopclassofGPracingallowed500 ccdisplacementwithamaximumoffourcylinders,regardlessofwhethertheenginewasatwo-strokeorfour-stroke.ThisisunlikeTTFormulaormotocross,wheretwoandfourstrokeshaddifferentenginesizelimitsinthesameclasstoprovidesimilarperformance.Consequently,allmachinesweretwo-strokes,sincetheyproducepowerwitheveryrotationofthecrank,whereasfour-strokeenginesproducepoweronlyeverysecondrotation.Sometwo-andthree-cylindertwo-stroke500swereseen,butthoughtheyhadaminimum-weightadvantageundertherules,typicallyattainedhighercornerspeedandcouldqualifywell,theylackedthepowerofthefour-cylindermachines. Whenaridercrashes,trackmarshalsupthetrackfromtheincidentwaveyellowflags,prohibitingovertakinginthatarea;onecornerfartherupthetrack,astationaryyellowflagisshown.Ifafallenridercannotbeevacuatedsafelyfromthetrack,theraceisred-flagged.Motorcyclecrashesareusuallyoneoftwotypes:lowside,whenthebikeloseseitherfrontorreartiregripandslidesoutonthe"low"side,andthemoredangeroushighside,whenthetiresdonotcompletelyslideout,butinsteadgripthetracksurface,flippingthebikeovertothe"highside",usuallycatapultingtherideroverthetop.Increaseduseoftractioncontrolhasmadehighsidesmuchlessfrequent.
