「記念」是並不是錯字，有意思的，意解做掛念。

任何事及人都可以「記念」而作出「記錄」。

這次旅行值得我們記念，一定要記錄下來。

但含有歷史意義的，就可以「紀念」並作出「紀錄」。

為了紀念他刷新了新的世界紀錄，政府為他造了個紀念碑。

所以兩詞在用法解釋上其實是一樣的，只是決定在意義上的選擇。

另外，「記念」多作動詞用。
